Sachem East Girls Basketball: Bishop Ford 48, Sachem 35 ... The Sachem East girls basketball team traveled to St. John the Baptist for the Under Armour High School Girls Basketball Classic. The Arrows lost, 48-35, to Brooklyn's Bishop Ford.

Sachem East Girls Winter Track: The Sachem East girls track and field team opened their season with promising performances in a twelve team field at Cross-over "A' at Suffolk West yesterday. Maddy Egan won the High Jump and placed 3rd in the 300, and Shannon Haberkorn placed 3rd in the 55 Hurdles and 6th in the 300 to lead the team, but it was the 1,2,3,4,6 finish of Racewalkers Kelly Maranchuck, Amanda Catherall, Alyssa Furlani, Holly Lindoe, and Sarah La Porta that really stole the show. Numerous Sachem East athletes placed in the top 6 in their events  including Stephanie Curtin and Kathryn Sullivan, 2nd and 6th in the 55 Hurdles; Kaitlin Shanahan, 4th in the 300; Kayla Garry, 6th in the High Jump; and Amanda Sluzewski and Sam Eng, 3rd and 4th in the Triple Jump. Laurie Semetsis ran the fastest time in Suffolk so far this season to win the 600 in 1:44.19 with Casey Gelderman placing 2nd, and the talented trio of Marissa Smith, Ashley Mercado, and Amanda DiSalvo went 4,5,6, in the Long Jump. Sachem East also came away with a victory in the Shot Put as Gabby Trejo led a 1,3,6, finish with Brittany Sepe and Rachel Llanes in support.

Sachem North Girls Winter Track: Sachem North took firsts in five open events at the season-opener winter track and field meet Saturday at Suffolk Community College West. Sachem also placed first in the 4x200-meter relay.

Kelly Lavan (3,000-meter) and Melissa Michels (55-meter) showed Sachem’s talent in both ends of the track spectrum.

Lavan controlled the pace in the 3,000 from wire to wire in the meet’s second event. Michels' strong start in the 55 sprint put her at the front of the race’s first heat as she dashed to a career-best in her first race of her second indoor track season.

Sachem showed field event range as well. Kaitlyn Okvist had an indoor career-best as she won shotput. Kristie Michta won high jump as she cleared her first three heights (4’ 8”, 4’ 10, 4’ 11”) in three jumps. Winter rookie Sunja Joseph won the triple jump.

Two or more athletes finished in the top 10 in seven of the 12 open events in Crossover A. The Flaming Arrows also placed three squads in the top eight in the 4x200 m. relay.  Sunja Joseph , Gabriella Czerw, rookie frosh Alyssa Leto and Melissa Michels won an exciting 4x200 as Sachem stretched the exchange zone as far as possible before Melissa Michels put the relay in the lead for good as she overtook a rival runner on the backstretch of her 27.0 anchor leg.
