Red, Black & Gold Scoreboard: December 21

A daily look at the sports action around Sachem.

Sachem Hockey: Sachem 4, Hills 1 ... After dropping the last two games and having to play Half Hollow Hills a team that is ranked No. 9 on Long Island - Sachem is 7 -, head coach Al Posillico thought his team would have its hands full.

The last time they met it took a goal in overtime to finally put them away. Just as last game, Sachem's Brendan Bassett got the call in net as did HHH's Eric Tatarian, and like the first time it was a goaltenders battle, with each one making save after save. Sachem, however, won 4-1.

The  Arrows finally broke the no score dead lock when HHH's was called for taking down Nick Tarasco as he broke in alone on Tatarian and the Arrows were issued a penalty shot which Tarasco scored on. The game contined at 1-0 until Daylin Frantin scoed a power play goal for HHH's to tie it up. The game remained tied until late in the second period when defensemen Sal Calvagna hit Tarasco with a nice breakout pass and in return hit Chris Porcillo on the back door with the game winner. Porcillo went on to score two more to complete the hat trick and secure the win.

"Tonight we played like the team that won seven in a row," said Posillico. "We moved the puck and each goal, except the penalty shot goal, all had two assists, we played smart position hockey even though we lost two players to suspensions and had way to many penalties.

"That's why giving up four points the last two games really hurts because with the team playing along with good effort we can beat any team, and when our injuries are done along with suspensions I think we are going to be the team to beat!"
