Red, Black & Gold Scoreboard: December 13

A daily look at the sports action around Sachem.

Sachem North Girls Winter Track: Senior co-captain Kristie Michta won high jump (5’ 1”) and sophomore-sis Katie Michta won the 1,500-meter racewalk at Crossover B held at Suffolk West Tuesday night.

Melissa Michels won the 55 meter dash for the second straight meet and Shanice Futrell took first in long jump.

Sachem athletes made new marks on Sachem’s All Time Top 25 Team Leaders record board in several events Tuesday. Melissa Michels moved up to No. 4 in the 55-meter dash based on her career-best time of 7.55. Frosh rookie Alyssa Leto (7.93) took over the No. 17 spot in her first ever 55 dash. Frosh hurdler Nikki Fogarty became the No. 11, 55-meter hurdler with her 9.76 (sixth place) finish. Sophomore Gabriella Czerw moved up the high jump leader board with her indoor career-best 4’ 10” jump and on to the 300 meter dash list with her career-best 46.21.  Senior co-captain Becca Duffy (1:45.75) moved into the top ten 600 m. run list one event after junior Kelly Lavan did the same in the 1000 m. run (3:09.44).

Sachem returns to Suffolk West next Sunday for Crossover C.

Sachem East Girls Winter Track: The Sachem East girls track team competed in crossover "B" on Monday night and again was led by the racewalking and throwing squads. In the shot put Brittany Sepe, Gabby Trejo, and Pam Emengo went 1, 2 ,3 with Taylor Kern also qualifying for finals and placing seventh. Kelly Maranchucks' first place finish in an outstanding early season time of 7:35.42 led the racewalkers with Alyssa Furlani, Amanda Catherall, Holly Lindoe, Sarah LaPorta, and Val Auciello taking places 4th through 8th.

Casey Gelderman won the 1000, and Laurie Semetsis crushed her personal best in the 1500, placing third in 5:04.29. Also turning in strong performances were Alyssa Naer (4'8") and Maddy Egan (4'6") in the High Jump. The teams' next meet will be crossover "C" this Sunday, where many of the Cross Country runners will finally return to action as the team begins to gear up for the Rhode Island Classic and the North Shore Invitational, two elite meets taking place over the Holiday break.
