Athletes from all over Long Island came to tackle the 1.25 miles of unforgiving hurdle barriers, including a water pit that they must try to hurdle over, and many do not succeed. There were races for each ability level, ranging from freshmen, to novice, and to open, so anyone up for the challenge could compete.

For the Arrows, junior Melanie Notarstefano placed forth overall in the open division in a stellar time of 7:25.18. She broke her own school record by three seconds.

Not too far behind was Krystle Grygo who finished 10th overall in the open division in a time of 8:14.71. Grygo, a senior, also improved on her personal best.

Also competing in the open division were two other seniors, Ashley Ayers and Meghan Walsh. Ayers, in only her second time ever doing the steeplechase, finished in a personal best of 8:19.99 while Walsh ran 8:36.94.

In the novice division, junior Sam Maurice, also new at the steeplechase, finished in 8:44.49. Senior Megan Power finished in 9:23.21. Finally, in the freshmen division, Frances Napoli finished in a time of 9:59.92 and Ashley Rommeney finished in 10:07.47. For both of them, it was their first time ever competing in the event.

Next stop for the Arrows is a dual meet against Northport on Tuesday, April 26 at Northport High School. It promises to be a fiercely competitive meet as teams are Division I rivals.
