Quintana Brothers Place Sixth in New York

Had strong run for a doubles championship, end careers on high note.

Sachem East’s Jason and Dylan Quintana placed sixth in New York at the state doubles tournament last weekend at the U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing.

The senior brothers opened against the top seeds and eventual champions, losing a close match. They won three straight in the back draw, beating sectional champions from lower New York, then the Buffalo region and defeated the New York City champions in the semifinals.

In the finals they were defeated by Nassau’s doubles champions and finished as one of the top teams in the field of 32.

“This has been quite a season,” Massimo said. “From being out of playoff contention, to turning it around, making the playoffs, beating the No. 3 seed, making the Elite 8 and Jason and Dylan Quintana’s success, this had to be perhaps my most exciting and enjoyable season yet.  However, I also say that about every team, every year that I have coached. I know that come this time next year, I will seriously miss coaching tennis.”

Massimo has officially ended his coaching career after this season.
