Preview: East and North Boys Track and Field

North has talented sprinters, East is led by Saavedra.

North

Last year: North won the Suffolk County large school title.

Key returning athletes: Davon Lawrence, Bonifacio Aguila, Connor Dolan, Davon Christopher, John McNeece, Brendon Hayes, Alex Katos, Doug Cornell, Ryan Sampson, Joe Johnson, Tim Randazzo, Brian Wersan and Eric Yesalonis.

Things to look for:

-Lawrence will run the 100, 200, a relay or two and participate in the triple jump.

-Bonifacio will sprint, take part in some relays and compete in the high jump.

-Dolan will run the 1,600, 3,200 and 4x800.

-Christopher will run the 400 and compete in the long jump. Last year he was part of the 4x100 that went to the New York State finals.

-McNeece will run the 1,600, 3,200 and 4x800.

-Hayes will run the 1,600 and 3,200.

-Katos will spring and will jump and do some relays.

-Cornell will throw shot and discuss along with Ryan Sampson and Louie Vilardi, who had bulging discs he was nursing a few weeks ago.

-John is a multi-event runner, competing in the 200, the mile and the high jump.

-Randazzo is a middle distance runner and competes in the long jump, 200 and 400.

-Wersan is an 800 specialist.

-Yesalonis does the 100 and 400 intermediate hurdles.

East

Head coach: Joe Orenzo

Last season: 3-3

Things to look for:

-Alex Saavedra will lead the way. He is coming off tremendous cross-county and winter seasons. This past weekend he competed in the National Scholastic Indoor Championships at The Armory in New York City and ran a 9:31.33 in the 3,200-meter race. He also runs the 1,600 and 4x800.

-Phil Rasona, Zach Patsy, Joe DiRienzo and senior Captain Mike Richards will help as distance crew at East will look to score points. Patsy and Richards run the 1,600, 3,200 and 4x800 races. DiRienzo and Rasona run the 800 and 4x800.

-Junior Lucas Brum will look continue his successful winter season as he leads East's throwers again this spring.
