On August 11, after much anticipation, Maria Michta competed in the women's 20K race walk event at the summer games in London. Though she competed valiantly, Elena Lashmanova, of Russia, took home the gold medal.

Michta finished in 29th place, but with a personal best time of 1:32:27. Sachem School District's PR Manager Chris Vaccaro was on the course to take amazing photos of Michta competing in the event. With his permission, Patch has uploaded them here.
