Pee Wee Players Shadow Sachem Varsity Football

SYAG Dolphins look up to community stars.

For a group of pee wee football players, the Sachem North varsity squad served as a point of inspiration Friday night.

The SYAG 5-8 year old Dolphins shadowed the varsity before their home game against Brentwood at Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium.

They shook hands with players and ran through the Sachem headdress – something they could be doing in the future.

“It shows what the future is like for them,” said Mike Schuierer, an assistant coach on the Dolphins, whose son Ben is on the team. “It boosts their morale and shows them what it’s like to play when they get to this age. It’s a big boost. They’re just learning the game, so to see all the excitement and everything going on around them is just overwhelming in a positive way.”

Sachem coach Dave Falco was happy his players were ambassadors of the game for the night.

“I’m glad to do that for the kids in our community,” he said. “Those kids are our future. Anybody we can turn onto football I’m all for that.”

“I remember when I was a little kid and looking up to the varsity guys,” said Sachem senior Dalton Crossan. “It makes you feel special, like a big shot with all of them wanting to shake your hands.”
