Sachem East Ready for State Federation Run

The Sachem East girls continue their outstanding season and their trek towards the Nike cross-country regionals with the New York State Federation Championships this weekend at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

The school's seven-person varsity team qualified too. As of Thursday those expected to run are Rachel Paul, Shannon O'Hehir, Danielle Vasquez, Kaitlin DeMartino, Samantha Maurice, Nicole Silvestre, and Jayda Allen.

This year, three teams from Section XI will be running in the race. Sachem East joins Ward Melville and Northport.

“It is extremely rare for three teams to come from one Section, and it is a testament to the depth and quality of Suffolk County that this is the case,” East coach Dan Schaub said.

This year's Sachem East girls team is the first Sachem cross country team to run in the Federation Championships since 1998. They are the first ever East team to run in the Federation Championships and they are the first athletic team since East girls basketball to represent Sachem in a Federation Championship. Field hockey could make it too if they have a successful weekend in Syracuse.
