Paul Earns All-State Title in 2 Events at State Meet

Flaming Arrows compete with strong performances amongst the best in New York State.

Five Sachem atheletes from both the boys and girls varsity track teams competed amongst the best in the state at the New York State championship meet at Caledonia-Mumford High School last weekend.

East's Rachel Paul took the All-State title in two events, placing fifth in the Federation 800-meter run (a compilation of runners from all types of schools including large, small, city and Catholic schools) with a time of 2:12.72 and sixth in the Federation 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:27.88.

"Rachel's 1,500-meter time is the sixth fastest in New York State this year, seventh fastest in the nation...a clear sign of the strength of New York State," said East's coach Dan Schaub. "This year's state meet was the most talented 1,500-meter field compiled in girls high school track and field this year."

Kayla Cataldo from Sachem North, pole vaulted 10', a height coach Alex Young said ties her school record.

"Kayla had her finest pole vaulting day ever as she tied her school record with a
10' vault at NYS Championships...and then had two near misses at 10'
6"," Sachem North coach Alex Young said. "Kayla cleared the crossbar on her third and final attempt at 10'6", but hit the crossbar on her way down, knocking it down and ending her outstanding championship meet. County Champion Kayla had the finest day of the four Suffolk County vaulters competing at States with her mark."
