Notebook: Suffolk County Division I Football, Week 1

A weekly look at how all teams in Division I faired this weekend.

Each week we'll take a look at how all football teams in Suffolk County's Division I played:

Sachem North 27, Bay Shore 13: Sachem North opened its season with a decisive win over the Marauders. Senior Dalton Crossan rushed 10 times for 145 yards and four touchdowns. He broke the 1,000-yard mark for his career.

: West Islip, in its first game back as a member of Division I after a 20-plus year hiatus, defeated the Patchogue-Medford Raiders, 37-6, at West Islip High School. Lions quarterback Anthony Santo was 8-for-13 passing for 128 yards. He also ran for 46 yards.

: Commack capitalized on two Ward Melville weaknesses – blocking and tackling – to pull off a 21-7 win in the Division I football opener for both teams. Commack senior Brandon Cook scored on a six-yard run early in the game to give the Cougars a lead they'd never relinquish. Cook also scored Commack's third touchdown of the game on a one-yard run with 11 seconds left.

: Sachem East broke a 15-game losing streak that lasted 729 days and dated back to Week 1 of the 2009 season. Junior back Steven Casali rushed for just under 100 yards as Sachem East opened a new chapter in program history, recording the first win for head coach Mark Wojciechowski.

New Northport quarterback Sean Gilroy (7-for-12, 108 yards, touchdown) proved he could lead the offense downfield while fullback Ryan Kokell (14 carries, 87 yards) showed off determined running between the tackles. Benitez (44 yards on 11 carries) also found the end zone before leaving the game due to injury. 

Longwood 28, Connetquot 6: Longwood was led by back Cory Wallace, who scampered for 103 yards on just four carries to lead the Lions.
