Notebook: Sachem East Football Training Camp

A look at some notes from the first official day of training camp.

Thursday marked the first official day of training camp for football teams in Suffolk County. Sachem East and North hit the field for two-a-days at 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Challenge course: East players took to the challenge course for a timed vigorous run, which ended with players pushing a 45-pound plate across the field. Players tried to beat times they put up in the same event earlier in the summer. The team also tested on the bench press and had multiple players put up over 300 pounds.

Next week: On Sunday, East will head to Camp Kennybrook in Monticello, N.Y. for a week of training camp off Long Island. The program has been traveling there since the 2005 football season. Stay tuned to Sachem Patch for live coverage from camp on Tuesday.

Xs and Os: While we'll be looking at the new look staff and how they implement plays throughout the course of the season, during a conversation at Thursday's evening camp session, East coach Mark Wojciechowski said the relationship between he and new offensive coordinator Gary Marangi has been exactly what he hoped for. He's coached with defensive coordinator Tony Gambino for over 15 years, so their chemistry is also impeccable.
