North's Kelly Kuerner Commits to Stony Brook

Lacrosse player becomes first girl in Class of 2011 to pick a college.

Sachem North senior Kelly Kuerner has committed to play college lacrosse at Division I Stony Brook University.

"Our program is extremely excited for Kelly," said North assistant coach Ed Manly. "She will be a great fit at Stony Brook. Being a fourth year varsity player this upcoming year we are excited for her to do special things.  Stony brook is getting a great player and an even better young lady."

Kuerner was a Second Team All-Sachem Patch selection in 2010.

Stony Brook finished 3-13 last year, but the University as a whole, which is recognized as one of the best in the nation year in and year out for various research achievements, is having a bit of a resurgence in the sports world. From men's lacrosse to football, cross country, baseball and a handful of other teams on the campus, it's beginning to become a habit to win conference titles. Kuerner is headed to Seawolve's country at the right time.

She is the fourth North athlete to make a commitment to a college this year. She joins fellow incoming seniors Michael Andreassi, Jake Cabble,  Tim Lang and Angelo Armine as the only athletes at North to commit to a college so far.
