North Sweeps Central Islip, Remains Perfect

Arrows get win off Sole pitching, Hennelly's bat.

It's a perfect start to the season for the Sachem North baseball team as it was able to complete the three game sweep of Central Islip. They defeated the Musketeers 9-3 Thursday behind Alec Sole and Brian Hennelly.

Sole threw five innings and had seven strikeouts; meanwhile Hennelly finished the game to give Sachem its fourth consecutive win of the season.

After Central Islip started the game with two runs off a couple of singles, North answered back with six of its own.

Sole started the inning with a walk and scored on a wild pitch. The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Hennelly, who cleared the bases with a long double to bring in three runs. A single by Rich Armstrong brought in Hennelly and a double by Sole scored the sixth run of the inning.

Central Islip added one more in the second, but failed to score the rest of the game. A Dan D'Orazio single in the third inning brought in two more for Sachem to put it up 8-3.

It stayed that way until the sixth inning when Mike Vitale singled in Joe Maiolo, who hit a triple into the right-center field gap. Hennelly finished off the game for the Arrows by allowing only one base runner in his two innings of relief.

Even though they trailed early, the Flaming Arrows did not give up.

"I just knew that my team would have my back and score me some runs," said Sole. "They did exactly that, especially with Brian's base-clearing double, and when you have that kind of team it's really easy to stay positive."

Sachem North's next game is a scrimmage at home Tuesday against a tough Longwood team, who is also 4-0 overall this season.
