Man Arrested for Driving 100 mph in Holbrook, Endangered Welfare of Children

Pulled over near Sunrise Highway and Nichols Road.

A man was arrested in Holbrook Friday evening for reckless driving and the endangerment of several children in the vehicle.

Erik Reyes, 26, of Shore Dr., Mastic Beach, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed 2nd Degree, Reckless Driving, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and one count of Failing to Secure a Child Under the Age of Four in a Child Seat.  

Police Officer Matthew DeMatteo of the 5th Precinct observed a 2001 Hyundai weaving in and out of traffic lanes and traveling in excess of 100 mph heading westbound on the express portion of Sunrise Highway near Nichols Road.

After pulling over the vehicle, Officer DeMatteo observed two young children in the backseat of the car, including one child without a car seat. 

The children were released into the custody of their mother.
