Lazarich Wins 1,000-Meter League I Title

Wins in just second time competing in that event; others place as well.

On Friday night the Sachem North boys winter track and field team competed in the Suffolk County League I championship meet.  The highlight of the meet came in the 1,000-meter race where junior Alex Lazarich, a winter track rookie, became the League I Champion in the 1,000 meters in only his second time competing in the event.

"Lazarich seized control of the lead after the second lap of the five lap race and never gave it up," said Sachem coach William Holl. "He gapped the field with an outstanding kick over the final lap and a half."

In the mile, seniors Colin Eberhardt and Brandon Hayes led the way with a second and fifth place finish, respectively.
