Jets Fans Gather At Local Bars to Watch Playoffs

Fans celebrate 28-21 win over the New England Patriots.

On Sunday,  in Lake Ronkonkoma was filled to capacity as football fans watched the divisional playoff game as the Jets took down their arch rival New England Patriots in a 28-21 victory, proving that revenge is indeed sweet for local fans.

As the tables began to turn dramatically on this pivotal game, Sean, a spectator from Farmingville, who did not provide his last name, underscored the importance of another win for the New York team.

"Tonight's game is actually a New York Super Bowl," he said. "If we're going to beat the Patriots we've already won. We got humiliated last time; there were a lot of factors, but tonight is our time to shine."

The Jets' resurgence took place on the same field where the team was throttled by 42 points six weeks prior.

In the third quarter after superstar quarterback Tom Brady got sacked for the fourth, huge Jets supporter, Frank Gscheidle from Lake Ronkonkoma speculated that the Patriots were finished.

"I just think it's mentally that [the Jets] are going to win and that's it.  I think they've got Brady psyched out," he said.

Tension was high in Bruno's as all eyes were glued to the several screens surrounding the pub, when New England attempted to regain control in the third quarter with a touchdown and a two-point conversion, catching up to 14-11.

New York football fans erupted into cheers, high fives and victory dances as the Jets sealed their fate, capped by Santonio Holmes' touchdown catch, to head to the AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Even those who weren't Jets fans got swept up in the excitement of the moment.

"I'm a Giants fan, for the record, "said Bill Hazell from Ronkonkoma, "but, I'm supporting the Jets, best of luck against the Steelers next week, and I hope for this crowd of people that they pull it off."
