Harvey/Blieberg Comment on East Coaching Position

Coach/AD respond to recent open coaching position in Sachem.

Former Sachem East head football coach Brian Harvey issued the statement below to Sachem Patch Sunday afternoon. Keep reading to see what Sachem athletic director Pete Blieberg had to offer.

My thoughts on the subject is that the district finds a person who loves the kids. They will because of the faith that I have in and . Most importantly, they find that person as soon as possible for the program's sake.

We have some of the best kids around here in Sachem, especially at East High School. The players from this past year never gave up. The players fought in every second of every game. I will always remember and appreciate that.

The 2011 team will be much improved and will better able to compete next year. If the Suffolk County Coaches Association adopts the new proposal to the reconfiguration of Suffolk County football it will change Division I to Conference I, which will consist of two leagues. If adopted, this will be great news for Sachem East football. Sachem East will find themselves atop in League II with the likes of Bay Shore, Northport and Connetquot.

We were 1-15 the last two seasons. We have lost 15 in a row. I am grateful for the opportunity that was given to me by the district. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I hope the incoming coach breaks that streak in the first game of the season next year. The players and parents deserve it. Best wishes to the next head coach at Sachem East football.

Blieberg's take on the matter

Sachem athletic director Pete Blieberg wasn't able to fully comment on the situation because it's a personnel matter, but did say, "At this time, we are looking to move the program in another direction. I thanked Coach Harvey for all his hard work and no, at this time we do not have a successor, we have yet to post the job, which we will do in-house first."

Sachem Patch will continue to report on the open coaching position as news comes in.
