Suffolk Swimmers to Participate in "Special Olympics New York, "Freezin' for a Reason" Polar Plunge"

As a community service project, 11th grade Sachem East student, Valerie Zeffiro has organized a Suffolk County team, "Suffolk Swimmers" to take part in the 2011 Special Olympics New York Polar Bear Plunge.  The plunge will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at North Hempstead Beach Park, NY.  The goal of the plunge is to raise money for the Special Olympics.  This is the second year that the "Suffolk Swimmers" will be participating.  Last year, the team raised $4,600, and this year the goal is $9,000.We are looking for members to commit to "grin and bear" it for the althletes of Special Olympics New York by taking a chilly dip alongside many other warm-hearted people.  The cold will be temporary, but the positive impact this will have on the lives of thousands of citizens with disabilities will last a lifetime.If you want to learn more about this wacky winter event, visit www.specialolympicsNY.com to find out the chilly details.  If you are interested in participating as a member of "Suffolk Swimmers", 1.  Log onto www.specialolympicsNY.com, 2.  Click on the link to Polar Plunge, 3.  Scroll down to Saturday, March 5, 2011 CHECK IN - 9am PLUNGE - 12pm North Hempstead Beach Park, Port Washington, New York4.  Click "Register Here"5.  Click "Join a Team"6.  Scroll to "Suffolk Swimmers" and join!If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Valerie at 631-696-2651 or e-mail at vzeffiro@yahoo.comWe hope you decide to join the plunge!
