East's Dan Candemeres Commits to Keystone

Graduates as East's top scorer of all-time, will play Division III ball.

Sachem East senior Dan Candemeres has committed to play basketball at Division III Keystone College in Pennsylvania.

Candemeres, a selection this past winter, was the first basketball player from Sachem East to be named all-county.

He was a three-time all-league and two-time all-conference player, and graduates as Sachem East’s all-time leading scorer with 956 career points.

During the 2010-11 season he ranked fourth in Suffolk County with 53 three-point shots made.

“He is an incredibly hard worker, and has an extremely high basketball IQ,” said Sachem coach Jon Finta. “He willingly changed positions when we needed him to play point guard, and there is no doubt in my mind that he was the most valuable player to his team in League I, if not the entire county.”

Candemeres said he felt most comfortable at Keystone when he took his visit.

“I feel the system they play under fits me well and I can be successful there not only on the court but in the classroom as well,” he said.

He credited Sachem with preparing him for adopting a new basketball system.

Though disappointed with how the season ended for East, he’ll take away many positives from his time as one of Sachem’s best basketball players.

“I had a great time with my team and coaches, made great friendships,” he said. “I am going to miss playing with my team. They helped me grow as a basketball player.”

Keystone competes in the Colonial States Athletic Conference where it lost to Gwynedd –Mercy in the conference semifinals and finished the 2010-11 season 21-6 overall.
