East's Vazquez Commits to Buffalo for XC

Has hopes of competing with the best in Division I.

Sachem East senior Danielle Vazquez has committed to run cross-country at Buffalo, a Division I school.

Vazquez, a four-year varsity member at East, has had a roller coaster of a career in high school with injuries. She missed her freshman year, but battled back for a strong sophomore campaign.

A two-time all-county selection for cross-country, she was an integral part of East’s success earlier this school year as the Arrows finished eighth at the New York State Federation Championships.

She chose Buffalo because the coaching staff will help her train to reach the highest levels.

“I want to be a contender in Division I athletics,” she said, “and I feel with the proper training, I could climb to the top.”

Vazquez said she would like to run 5k’s and 10k’s in college and is anxious to compete.

Though still four or five years away, she has goals of competing for a club team to become an elite marathon runner after college.

“Nothings impossible,” she said, “and I live by that quote everyday.”
