East and North Cheerleaders Place at Nationals

Finish in top five at major competition, returned home Tuesday.

The varsity cheer squads at Sachem High Schools East and North placed in the top five at the UCA National Championship.

Sachem North placed third in Large Varsity Division I, while East placed fifth.

According to East head coach Cherisse Savery, her team took a disappointing fall in the final round, but they were "elated to still place in the top five in the nation."

Although they suffered a fall during the final round, all the coaches could hope for was to recover from it and continue with the rest of the routine without any other problems.

"Not only did they recover beautifully, they performed the rest of that routine as if nothing ever happened," said coach  Christina Lotito. "Sometimes that can be really hard, they all know when something goes wrong out there, but this team has a real closeness and pushed one another to be sure that all though there might have been a fall it would still be a wonderful performance...and indeed it was. We are so proud of them and everything they did that weekend."
