East Alum Solomeno Wins Second National Title

Helps Briarcliffe to USCAA World Series victory.

Sachem East alum Joe Solomeno won a second consecutive national title with Briarcliffe baseball after the Bulldogs beat Southern Virginia, 6-2, to win the USCAA World Series.

Solomeno, a catcher on the team, hit .331 with two home runs and 23 RBI. He was named to the all-tournament team.

Briarcliffe finished 33-15 this year. Last year the Bulldogs beat the University of Cincinnati–Clermont to win the title.

Solomeno is most notable in Sachem for hitting the game-winning homer against Sachem North in the 2009 Tim Crowley Memorial Baseball Tournament.

Solomeno said he is transferring to either Coker College in South Carolina, Queens College or Pace University.

"The experience [at Briarcliffe] was something I always wanted," he said. "Those two years will be for the rest of my life."
