Donlevy Finishes Strong in State Swim Meet

Placed third in the 50-free and sixth in the 100-free.

After a successful Friday evening, swimming in the preliminary round of the New York State finals, Sachem North junior James Donlevy had another record-breaking performance Saturday at Erie Community College in Buffalo.

In the 50-freestyle, he swam 20.99, finishing fourth in the state and third in state public high school rankings. It shattered a record held by Russell Galindo. He will get All-American consideration because of this performance.

In the 100-freestyle, Donlevy placed sixth in the state with a time of 46.76.

On Friday, the Sachem North 400-free relay made it back in day two of the state championships, qualifying with a time of 3:18.56 in the bonus heat at finals. The team of Donlevy, Greg Coleman, Chris Penteck and Stephen Penteck were aiming for the fourth school record to be broken this year. They were aiming to beat a 3:15.76 set in 1981, but did not beat that time on Saturday.

Overall, Sachem placed 22nd in the state.
