Doherty on the Brink of 1,000 Career Points

Sachem East senior set to make history on Friday.

Sachem East senior is 2 points away from career point No. 1,000 for her career.

The Arrows host William Floyd Friday evening at 7 p.m. where Doherty should set the milestone in the first quarter.

Her sister , a sophomore at Boston College, holds the Sachem East scoring record with 2,277 points and ranks seventh all-time in Long Island history.

Sachem basketball legend , who played one of her varsity seasons at Longwood, scored 2,583 points, good enough for the Suffolk County career record and No. 2 on Long Island behind Garden City's Bethany LeSeuer (3,167).

Besides Kristen Doherty and Kaczmarski, who is set to have her retired on Saturday, there are only four other players from Sachem girls basketball history who have scored 1,000 or more points in their careers: Lori Durham (Sachem), Barbara Durham (Sachem), Kathy O'Reilly (Sachem), and Jessica Merrihue (Sachem and Sachem East).

The Doherty sisters are on pace to pass Kaczmarski and her sister Carrie (3,400-plus) as the highest scoring sister duo in district history. The Durham sisters also combined for more than 2,400 points.
