Craig Geoghan Transfers to Stony Brook

, Sachem’s most prolific passing quarterback, is making the switch from Nassau County Community College to Stony Brook University.

A quarterback at Sachem in 2008-2009, he’ll play strictly on the defensive side of the ball as a safety for the Division I-AA Seawolves. He played both sides of the ball in high school and at Nassau.

Geoghan said he chose Stony Brook over Division II C.W. Post and Pace University, as well as Division I-AA Albany, Colgate and New Hampshire.

“I wish I could play quarterback at Stony Brook, but most schools like my ability to have a nose for the ball on defense, which I am fine with,” he said. “I have a lot of experience playing safety and I actually was recruited to Nassau CC as a safety and moved to quarterback early in the second week of training camp my freshman year.”

“Craig was one of our best players when he played for us,” said Sachem North head coach . “He was a two-time All-Long Island player who excelled on both sides of the ball. His greatest attributes were his toughness and his high football IQ. I always believed he could play at the I-AA level and has worked hard to make that dream come true.”

Geoghan still holds Sachem records for career-passing yards (2,146), season-passing yards (1,105), career completions (264), touchdowns in a season (11) and career (18). He was team MVP in 2008, offensive MVP in 2007 and an All-Long Island, All-County and All-Division selection.

He will join Sachem alum (Class of 2010) on the Stony Brook football roster. 

"I told myself when I was eight years old that if I didn't play Division I football that I would be dissapointed," he said. "It's always been my goal, I love the big stage and I feel I can compete with anybody. I'm excited for the opportunity and also to just have a great time playing the game."

Stony Brook head coach Chuck Priore is excited with the new addition to his team too.

"It's always good to get a local kid," he said. "He'll add depth to our secondary."
