Cataldo Resets Pole Vault Record at State Quals

Sachem North senior breaks own record on first attempt.

During the pole vaulting state qualifiers held at Shoreham-Wading River High School Thursday night, Sachem North's Kayla Cataldo reset her school record with a first-try clearance of 10' flat.

Those present in support, according to North head coach Alex Young, "erupted in loud cheers."  

Finishing in second place with All-County honors as well, the senior secured a spot in the New York State Championship with a jump of 9' 6", narrowly missing the 10' 6" mark on two other attempts.

Jumping on behalf of Sachem East, Alyssa Genduso booked her ticket upstate after clearing 9' 6" for a third-place finish. She was also named All-County.

The state qualifiers for all other events will be held this Sat., Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. at Suffolk County Community College's Brentwood campus. Check back for updates and complete results.
