Brodeur Hurt, Kinkaid Back in NHL

Sachem East alum back and forth with big club and AHL.

Sachem East alum Keith Kinkaid is back in the NHL. Not for good, but longer than his one-game stint as a backup last week.

The New Jersey Devils announced that goalie Martin Brodeur is expected to miss at least seven to 10 days as he rehabs his right shoulder.

According to the Devils, Brodeur suffered the injury while making a save in the first period of Thursday’s game against Los Angeles. He traveled but did not dress for the Devils' 3-2 shootout win in Nashville on Saturday, which Kinkaid was the backup to Johan Hedberg.

Hedberg is 3-0 in Brodeur’s absence and 12-2 in his 14 appearances with the team dating back to last season, according to the team.

Kinkaid started the season with the Albany Devils of the AHL and if Brodeur continues to have a rocky year, could find himself with the big club quite often and eventually for good.

He is one of a handful of former Sachem athletes to have a go at the professional ranks with the last year. , Class of 2001, played Triple-A ball with New Mexico, a Dodgers affiliate, , Class of 2003, was in NFL training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs and , Class of 2005, started the season off with the Single-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

Just in case you’re wondering, Kinkaid is not the first Sachem alum to play in the NHL or professional hockey. Greg Mischler played on the San Jose Sharks and Al Hoges was with the Devils.
