Alvino in Uniform with Tigers Big Club

Since Sachem Patch ran a feature on former Sachem East baseball player Billy Alvino, there have been some major developments in his career.

He'll still start the season off with a minor league affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, but this week he was in uniform with the actual major league club, warming up pitcher Dontrelle Willis in the bullpen and hi-fiving players on the bench.

It's a major nod to be brought up with the big league club, even in spring training.

"He's having a good spring and it looks like they are noticing," said Mike Alvino, Billy's step dad. "He said it was very exciting being on the bench with Cabrera, Laird, Guillen and Leyland."

Alvino is caught on the tail end of video from MLB.com congratulating players that scored after Guillen hit a double in Thursday's game.
