1977 Sachem Football Video on YouTube

Pays homage to one of the best teams in Sachem history.

If you have a few minutes free, click the video to the right and check out the tribute paid to the 1977 Sachem High School Football team that won the program's first county title and Rutger's Trophy.

Mixed with big plays and tunes from NFL films - many of which are played over the loud speaker at North today before games - the video captures exciting moments from the '77 season.

You can catch a glimpse of a younger Fred Fusaro, flashes of quarterback Brian Dehler, who won the Hansen Award that year, clips of Jerry Figgiani, Sachem's first 1,000-yard back, as well as the championship celebration after the Arrows beat Patchogue-Medford to win the title.

My favorite part: An interception by John Matheis in the county championship against Pat-Med. Fusaro credits that defensive stop as the play that saved his coaching career. He believed the district would have fired him if the program didn't go on a winning surge. That was the first of many big wins for Fusaro and Sachem.
