William Coggin: Why You Should Write Me in For Sachem School Board

My name is William Coggin, and I am a father of 4 children, ages 19-11. I have been a Sachem resident for 44 years. I am running as a write in candidate against Victor Canales for the seat Dorothy Roberts has vacated.

I am a Sachem graduate, from the Class of 1988. I have also served in the U.S. Army. I graduated from Stony Brook University with a BA in political Science, and a MA in Liberal Studies.

I have owned a number of small businesses in my lifetime, and I am currently a high school teacher in the Roslyn School District, which is one of the nation’s highest achieving districts. If elected, I will bring my business background to the Board of Education, as well as my educational background. I also manage the "Habitat for Humanity" club at our school. I have seen what practices help to make students more successful and hope to bring some of these changes to Sachem. I would love to bring a "new set of eyes" to the issues facing the district in the years ahead.

I am aware of the issues facing the district, as my wife has served as President of the Cayuga PTA, as well as various other positions both in Cayuga and in Samoset Middle School. I have volunteered my time to assist with numerous school functions and fundraisers during that time. My children are and have been involved in sports and other activities thoughout the years.

I believe in Sachem. I believe in restoring Sachem. I have lived in Sachem my whole life, and I have truly enjoyed being a Sachem community member. I think we can do better. I think we can bring Sachem to a higher standard when it comes to educating our children.

I am asking for your write in vote on May 20th. I believe that it's time for a change for Sachem, and together, we can make that change.
