Wax Museum Comes to Life at Waverly Elementary

School uses fun event to help teach children about biographies.

Who needs New York City to see a wax museum? Parents and teachers gathered for the second annual Waverly Wax Museum exhibit at the elementary school Friday afternoon.

Waverly’s third grade celebrated their biography research pieces with a wax museum and students dressed up like the famous individuals they learned about.

“A lot of the kids went in a great direction,” said third grade teacher Geri Glibowski. “They had to find a book and character they wanted to read about. It was reading, writing, note taking, research, the whole [English Language Arts] process.”

Students chose an array of characters from Michael Jordan, Eli Manning and Tiki Barber to Thomas Jefferson, Amelia Earhart and Leonardo da Vinci

“The process is teaching the children about biographical figures,” Glibowski said. “Talking about how to read a biography, teaching the children to read and take notes. It’s a very different thing to be able to read and take notes and make sure your notes reflect what you learned from the material. To bring it all together is what the wax museum is.”
