Waverly Students Exchanging Change 4 Wishes

Recycling program allows for donations to be made to Make-A-Wish.

Waverly Avenue Elementary students Kaylee Bowman, 10, and Deanna DiBenedetto took part in a project called Change 4 Wishes, a recycling program that collects bottles at school, which was not previously done there.

Instead of simply recycling the bottles, the children return them for the five cent deposit to donate to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

They have developed a website to provide info about the program and the response has been quite enthusiastic, according to Kaylee’s dad Matt Bowman.

“We are extremely proud of their efforts,” he said.

“Recycling is super important for our future and the Make-a-Wish foundation does so many wonderful things for sick children, that to be able to start something that benefits both is really awesome,” Kaylee said. “It’s exciting to see how everyone - the kids, the teachers and Principle Kelly - has joined in to getting this program going.
