Varsity Soccer Playoffs Postponed Again

After Hurricane Sandy pushes back playoff brackets, Section XI will reschedule games around current nor'easter.

Section XI, the governing body of Suffolk County varsity sports, will have to reschedule today's soccer playoff games in light of the nor'easter causing power outages and forcing early dismissals.

Sachem North's 2 p.m. match at Newfield High School and Sachem East's 2 p.m. match at Half Hollow Hills West have been cancelled, and no ruling has yet been handed down from the organization about when the games will be played.

Additionally, according to Newsday, the Cross-Country State Qualifier scheduled for today at Sunken Meadow Park was cancelled outright, due to "logistics." Instead, Section XI decided it would accept hand-picked qualifiers based on merged results from the division championships held two weeks ago. No Sachem runners were selected to compete in the upstate meet.

The Sachem School District was forced into early dismissal today as the district suffered sporadic power outages in multiple buildings. Sachem will update the school's progress on its power issues, and the newly scheduled playoff games throughout the day.
