Tough Weekend For Sachem Football

Both North and East lose by double-digit margins to Floyd and Connetquot, respectively.

Going into the weekend, both Sachem North and Sachem East football teams knew week six was going to be a challenge. With Floyd sitting at 4-1 and perennial favorites to win it all, and Connetquot off to a surprising 5-0 start, both varsity squads knew they'd have to bring their A-game.

For East, it was a combination of losing their star running back to a head injury and their inability to stop #22 Ryan Harvey, who scored four touchdowns en route to a 47-6 victory. Steven Casali looked like he was on his way to having a productive night, punching in a touchdown that made the score 13-6, but Casali was sent home at halftime after getting rattled on the TD play. Coach Mark Wojciechowski said Casali will undergo some testing on Monday.

After Casali's touchdown run, East kicked off, Harvey caught the ball at the 16 yardline and took it up the east sideline to the house for an 84 yard score. The Thunderbirds never looked back from there.

Sachem North's fate wasn't much better, as the team fell to 4-2 after getting beaten up on the road against William Floyd (5-1). AJ Otranto used both his feet and his arm to put up 36 points, and the Colonials feasted on an injury depleted North team 36-3. Coach Falco said some of the players that took the field against Floyd were called up from JV, and more injuries piled up during the game. Without Trent Crossan, Anthony Ross, or Kevin Bregaglia, just to name three of the seven total starters not dressed for the game, the Flaming Arrows only managed to muster a first half field goal.

Patch will have more notes and quotes, including some color photo galleries of both games in the coming days.
