Teri Ahearn Running Unopposed for School Board
After losing in last year's election, will take Jim LaCarrubba's seat.
Teri Ahearn will run unopposed for a Sachem school board seat left vacant by trustee Jim LaCarrubba.
Ahearn, a member of the district’s budget advisory committee and 16-year resident of the Sachem community, ran last year unsuccessfully against current trustee Sal Tripi for his seat.
“I still feel I bring something unique to the table,” said Ahearn, an educator in New York City. “With budgeting experience, programming experience, and now that I’ve been on the budget committee, I have a better idea of how the district budget runs and that made me realize that I do have something to offer. I feel like I have a good perspective, I have the desire. I could be a good asset.”

Ahearn spent 10 years in a classroom before becoming dean of a school in Brooklyn, where she originally hails from. In 2002, she became assistant principal and is also the special education supervisor. She is a programmer at her school and completes the master schedule for over 90 teachers and 45 paraprofessionals.
She said she is willing to commit the time it takes to get the job done, especially with next year’s school budget really going under the microscope since the state has said times could be tougher and cuts more drastic.

“This is a good way to give back to the community,” she said. “As long as I have the time to give, I have no problem giving it.”
Sachem Patch will continue to post profiles on all candidates leading up to the May 17 vote.
