Stunner: Sachem East Advances to County Finals On Last Play of Game

As the clock ran 0:00 Ryan Dippel pulled down a pass from Danny Wolff and fell down in the endzone with game-winning TD.

In what will probably go down as one of the greatest games ever played by a Sachem football team, the Sachem East Flaming Arrows pulled off a major upset on the road, defeating the Connetquot Thunderbirds 33-28 on a last second touchdown catch by Ryan Dippel.

It was perhaps one of the wildest final minutes of the game, as Sachem East scored what would have tied the game at 28 with an extra point, but coaches opted to go for the 2-point conversion and failed.

It appeared that Connetquot would be able to run the clock out and seal the 28-27 victory, but Sachem executed a perfect onside kick, recovered the ball, marched down the field and scored the touchdown on a leaping grab by Dippel. The Sachem crowd erupted. Players on Connetquot sat on the field for more than three minutes, stunned. Some coaches, coaches wives and supporters on the sidelines broke down in tears as they embraced.

Coach Mark Wojciechowski gave an impassioned prayer at the endzone huddle after the game, and two players snuck up behind him to give him the Gatorade bath.

Patch will have a full recap of this stunning victory later in the weekend. For now: Just know that Sachem East will play William Floyd in the Suffolk County Championship for the first time in the young high school's history.

I have NEVER attended a Sachem game as nail biting, play action filled, stunning game as this one was, ever!!! Both teams faught really hard all throughout the entire game, but let me tell you, as a Father of a player and a long time fan of Sachem football, this game was by far the MOST exciting, thrilling, nerve racking, AWESOME game that made history for the Sachem community. CONGRATULATIONS to the ENTIRE team & coaching staff for an outstanding season. You all should be very proud of all of your accomplishments. Win or lose next week, you guys are THE CHAMPS as far as I'm concerned. I will be there next Saturday at Stonybrook Stadium cheering you on, thats if I get my voice back by then. LET'S GO SACHEM!!! "Let the Dog's out" Woop Woop Woop Woop Woop!!! Best of luck to them all vs William Floyd. I pray" THE BEASTS FROM EAST " to WIN. ( Even though I understand the Connetquat score keeper was himself STUNNED & beside himself it would have nice & sportsman like IF HE HAD POSTED THE FINAL SCORE ON THE SCOREBOARD!!!! SACHEM 33 - Connetquat 28)

The most incredible and tense 51 seconds I've ever watched this season. Sachem Easts "Beasts" were awesome the whole game. Great throw by Danny and great pass completion by Ryan. Don't know all of them, but what an incredible team effort. One more time this coming weekend! East can beat Floyd, not many thought they could beat #1 seed. Connetquot played a great game, too bad some were yelling that Sachem sucked and for us to get off the field! I felt bad for them until then!
