Special BOE Meeting Scheduled for Wednesday

Special budget hearing will discuss challenges, ideas from board members and committees.

Tomorrow night the Sachem Board of Education will be holding a special meeting to discuss the upcoming budget proposal and vote for the 2013-14 school year.

The Board of Education has been working on various solutions to the projected $22 million shortfall for next year, while the school's legislative committee intends to turn the heat up on Albany, which recently announced it would be steering $2 million in aid away from Sachem.

Some ideas still on the table for the district is the consolidation of schools, combining the varsity sports program and eliminating some programs to fill the budget gap without raising taxes by nearly 13 percent.
