Sachem Superintendent Issues Farewell Statement to Manning

Statement describes 'mixed emotions' as East principal heads to Harborfields.

Sachem Schools Superintendent James Nolan issued an emotional statement regarding yesterday's news that Dr. Rory Manning will be leaving his position as principal of Sachem East High School on July 15.

"It is certainly with very mixed emotions that we share the news that Dr. Rory Manning has accepted the position of High School Principal at Harborfields," Nolan said in the statement. "We will certainly miss him, but we realize that family comes first and we wish Rory and his family the very best. He will always be a member of our Sachem Family."

Manning said yesterday this professional decision was one of the "dots" in his life, a reference to his opening remarks at East's graduation ceremony he presided over last Saturday. Manning recently received his doctoral degree in educational administration and supervision from St. John's University, and was himself a 1992 graduate of Sachem High School.

"I will always hold Sachem High School East and the larger Sachem family in a special place in my heart," Manning said in his statement. "So I will not say goodbye, rather I will say until we meet again."

Superintendent Nolan also said they have not found a replacement and are currently conducting a search for the right candidate.
