Sachem Students Honored with Zone Awards

Physical education students honored for academic/athletic achievement.

Four Sachem students were recipients of Suffolk Zone Awards, handed out by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance last month.

Edward Silber and Pamela Emengo from Sachem East and Ryan Calabrese and Rachel LaSala from Sachem North earned the honors, which are awarded based on a combination of physical education and academic success.

Silber, a member of three honor societies, has had perfect attendance since eighth grade and plays soccer and runs track. He is a member of the varsity club and stock market club at Sachem East, ranked No. 64 in his graduating class and is considering Marist and Stony Brook.

Emengo, who has won principal awards in physical education, chemistry and English, and has had 12 years of perfect attendance, is ranked No. 11 in her graduating class. She is considering Stanford or Brown and plays field hockey and runs track in the winter and spring.

Calabrese, a member of the football and track teams at North, is ranked No. 47 in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society, is a senior mentor, and is a member of the varsity club.

LaSala, a member of three honor societies, plays soccer and runs track. She is ranked No. 16 in her graduating class with a 99.53 weight grade point average.
