Sachem Schools Fair Well During Irene

Sustains one broken window and minor loss of power.

With 18 school buildings, facility locations and multiple fields and vehicles across the Sachem Central School District, there was ample opportunity to be affected by Hurricane Irene.

According to Sachem Superintendent James Nolan, there was some loss of power and one broken window.

"Overall," he said. "We were very lucky."

Sachem cancelled all Monday activities, including fall sports practices and tryouts, in the aftermath of a storm that has left hundreds of thousands without power on Long Island.

Sachem High School East also served as a shelter for the American Red Cross during the storm.
