Sachem Schools Closed Monday

Blizzard shuts down the district Monday.

Sachem Schools are closed Monday "due to inclement weather and unsafe driving conditions," according to release from the district.

All school related activities are also canceled.

The area was among the hardest hit from the blizzard that clobbered Long Island on Friday into Saturday, with nearly 28 inches of snow reported at MacArthur Airport.

No word yet from the district on how Monday's closure will affect vacation days on the remaining school calendar. The district has already canceled four days of this month's Winter Break due to days lost to Hurricane Sandy.

http://sachem.patch.com/articles/sachem-schools-cut-4-days-from-winter-break#comments_list What I got from this is that we get one free snow day, and the rest we are charged school days

Just add the days at the end of the year and move on. If you need Tuesday, too, take it. We have near 30" in the street still in our hilly Farmingville neighborhood. No plows yet.

My streets are still covered in ice. They just got the snow off today but it is still icy. I am scared to walk home tomorrow as well because the sidewalks are inaccessible. Hopefully the roads will be clear soon!

Still can't get down most streets in Holbrook/Ronkonkoma. Most of the sidewalks are filled with snow and you must walk in the street. How can you expect children to walk in the streets with the roads this hazardous? I think sachem needs to take another day to allow for more work to be done!
