Sachem Schools to Dismiss Early Friday

Students to be sent home 2-hours early due to impending blizzard.

The Sachem School District has announced it will be holding an early dismissal on Friday due to the blizzard about the sweep across Suffolk County.

Students will be sent home two-hours earlier than normal, according to Chris Vaccaro, Sachem's communications director. The district previously cancelled after-school and evening activities on Friday and Saturday events at all of the district's 18 buildings on Thursday. This includes PM childcare.

Other weather-related cancellations and reschedulings include:

  • Sachem North’s production of “Legally Blonde” has been rescheduled for next Friday, Feb 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16.
  • There has been no official word given on how the storm will affect the Section XI wrestling tournament scheduled for Sunday and Monday at Hofstra University.
  • The Program Day/Breast Cancer fundraiser that the Sachem High School East girls basketball program is hosting has already been rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 10 and all activities will take place at the originally scheduled times.
  • For those interested in attending the Marquette-Hofstra lacrosse game this weekend (Marquette’s head coach is Sachem alum Joe Amplo), that was pushed back to Sunday at 10 a.m.

District residents are encouraged to tune in to 91.9-FM, WSHR, Sachem High School Radio, for constant coverage of the storm.
