Update: Sachem School Info Leaks To Message Board

No network intrusion into the district's system despite the leak, district said.

Leaked internal information from the Sachem Central School District is being investigated by both the district and Suffolk County Police.

According to a message announcing the leak posted on the district's website, tests have shown no network intrusion to the district's systems. Suffolk County police have told Patch that the incident is under investigation, but no other information is available at this time.

"The school district is actively looking into and dealing with the issue," writes the message. "If you have any information about the situation that could help police with their investigation, please email Abuse@Sachem.edu."

The same announcement has been posted Friday morning onto the district's Facebook Page.

While the district has not yet confirmed what was leaked, Fred Gorman who manages the Sachem Unspun website told Patch that over the past few months there have been accounts posting district information to the site’s forums. Gorman said he has been removing the district information while keeping up comments discussing it.

Gorman said this information has included free/reduced lunch programs, grade information among others. He also said after removing the information he has not kept it nor any IP addresses associated with it.

Among the threads on Sachem Unspun include a link to a separate website that a resident told Patch was also posting student information. The page was allegedly active this morning but is now down. Stephanie Volpe told Patch she received a phone call from a parent who discovered the information. A screenshot of the website was posted to the Sachem Moms Facebook Page, which is a closed group.

Patch has reached out to both the school district and will update as information becomes available.
