Sachem School District Opens Registration for Universal Pre-Kindergarten

Application deadline for program is March 18.

The Sachem Central School District is currently accepting applications from Sachem residents for the district’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for the 2011-2012 school year.

The program is hosted on-site in several of the district’s elementary schools and is facilitated by SCOPE Educational Services.

The 2011-2012 UPK program will be offered to children who are four years of age by Dec. 1, 2011 and are first eligible for kindergarten in September of 2012. Applications for the program can be obtained from the district’s website, as well as at the District Office, the Sachem Public Library, and all 12 elementary schools.

Once completed, applications must be returned in person or mailed to the attention of Dr. Jill M. Karp, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction - Elementary, Sachem Central Schools, 245 Union Avenue, Holbrook, NY 11741.

Applications must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18 (mailed applications must be postmarked by March 18) with no exceptions for late applicants.

Program participation is based on a lottery, and families of selected students will be notified the week of May 2. While school selection and time preference will be considered, it cannot be guaranteed. Transportation will not be provided for the program.

Parents who are interested in learning more about the UPK program are encouraged to attend an informational meeting at Samoset Middle School in the Board of Education Annex Room A on March 10, 2011 at 10 a.m. Any further questions about the UPK program can be directed to Dr. Jill M. Karp, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction – Elementary at 471-1345.
