Sachem School Budget Passes

Sachem residents approved the school district's $294.2 million proposed budget on Tuesday by a vote of 4925-1834.

The budget includes a 2.53 percent increase in spending over the current year and carries a 1.92 percent tax levy increase, which is within the state's tax cap for the district.

For school board seats, incumbent Teri Ahearn defeated Sara Wottawa. Newcomer Victor J. Canales ran unopposed for the seat of incumbent Dorothy Roberts. Roberts, running for a different seat on the board, defeated Kelly Burnham.

A proposition to move the school board from elections by seat to at-large elections was approved 2,821-439.
