Sachem School Board Trustee Jim LaCarrubba Will Not Seek Reelection
Enjoyed three years on the board and may run again some day.
Jim LaCarrubba will not seek reelection for his seat on the board of education in the Sachem Central School District. Teri Ahearn is running unopposed for the spot.
“As much as I’ve enjoyed the three years I’ve had on the board, personally I have a lot going on,” he said. “The biggest concern is that I made a commitment to myself and the other folks on the board to spend as much time on the job needed. I’d be doing a disserve [if I ran again].”
LaCarrubba, a Sachem alum from the class of 1989, is the Deputy Superintendent of the Town of Brookhaven Highway Department.

“As someone who grew up here and went to Sachem and given back to the community, you see all the great things that are happening out there with our kids,” he said.
From talking to fifth grade students about government or listening to the communities comments and concerns, he thoroughly enjoyed his time as a school board member, which is why he is open to running again if the opportunity was right for the taking.

“If things change for me, I would certainly love to do it again,” he said. “Everybody should have to sit on that side of the dais and look at it from that side.”
In terms of this year’s school budget, LaCarrubba said he had his own battle beyond the fiscal implications that were handed down by the state.
“I thought we could have preserved more programming,” he said. “I don’t know where they are going to come up with funding for next year.”
In a closing note, LaCarrubba thanked his fellow board members and the community for the privilege to serve.
“There is a good chance you will see me sitting in the audience at board meetings,” he said. “Everyone should work to play a more active role. There are a lot of great things going on out there.”
