Sachem North Volleyball Team Pulls Off Upset Of Smithtown East

Flaming arrows advance to next round, await their next opponent.

The Sachem North boys volleyball team pulled off a dramatic upset over Smithtown East in the opening round of the Division 1 playoffs Thursday evening.

The Flaming Arrows, seeded fourth in the division, defeated Smithtown East 3-0 with scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-18, according to The Sachem Report.

North got big contributions from John Echel (17 kills, five blocks), Brian Trusley (12 kills) and Alex Lazarich (nine kills, four digs).

The Flaming Arrows will play the winner of tomorrow night's matchup between Lindenhurst and Connetquot. Sachem North will face one of those teams on Saturday at 10 a.m. on the road.

Tonight, Sachem East, who earned a first-round bye, will play at 8 p.m. against the winner of the Smithtown West-v-Walt Whitman game.
