Sachem North Singer Earns Spot at NYSCAME Music Festival

Laura Laureano, class of 2013, the only Sachem North student selected to attend December 2 festival in Rochester.

A Sachem North senior musician will be representing her school this week at the NYSCAME Music Festival held in upstate Rochester, NY. 

Tomorrow, senior Laura Laureano will be boarding a charter bus for Rochester as the only Sachem North student chosen to participate in the festival, after being invited to join the 2012 NYSCAME all women's choir. 

Laureano has a diverse resume of performances, including Sachem North's productions of Bye Bye Birdie!, Beauty and the Beast, and Spelling Bee: The Musical. In addition to her school roles, she also played Teen Fiona in Shrek at the Broadway Theatre in New York as a result of winning Nickelodeon's "Not Your Ordinary Princess" singing contest.

She performed on live television for "Good Day New York," and sang the National Anthem at a Long Island Ducks game. 

Laureano is planning to pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre and is currently applying to colleges.

The NYSCAME Music Festival will run through December 2, and showcases the top New York talent in grades 11 and 12.
