Sachem North Girls Capture League I Track Championship

North Flaming Arrows edge out East girls by 2.5 points in nail-biter.

Sachem North defeated Sachem East by just 2.5 points, but it was enough to earn the League I girls indoor track championship held at Suffolk West yesterday afternoon.

According to The Sachem Report, North finished strong in the 4X800 relay to secure a 144.5 to 142 victory, its first championship since the district split into two high schools.

“It really took every event,” Sachem coach Alex Young told The Sachem Report. “You look back and every point mattered. In a couple of races there were a couple of points where a North athlete edged out an East athlete and that not only becomes a two-point swing, but a four-point swing. The battle went right to the last event.”

Both track teams will compete in the Suffolk County championship meet next Saturday at Suffolk West.
